Well it's time to get off my ample a___ and get this thing thrown together. I am headed to HD today to grab some PT 2X6 and I'll assemble something here at home for transport to MAC next weekend.

For those interested, Scottsdale has added a deck and doorway shelter. The project is still a work in progress (blue tarp is temporary until a roofing structure is installed possibly next weekend. I have posted two picttures on our blog for those who are also chatting about doing something similar...

Frank I like what your buddy did there. Got me to thinking maybe of doing the same thing. I see he tucked it under the awning roll, and has foam pipe insulation on the uprights to sit against the side of the motorhome, slick.

The deck is constructed. I just did a simple 5'X5' box out of 2X6 PT. I have it taken apart and put in the truck. I'll snap some pictures next weekend.

Frank I did take a look at what Scottsdale did and it looks nice. Not something I have time for this year though. I'll stick with the deck platform for now. On my next trip I'll go by for a closer look though.

I've seen it and it gives me some ideas [thumbs_up] Our KZ isn't quite as high so the steps won't be needed but having the "drip shield" over the door would be nice for that inevitable ice water that drips down off the roof on a sunny winter afternoon :D

Just a quick question - what does he plan to do with it after the winter season is over? Will MAC store it for him until next winter?

I'm not sure Elizabeth but I am betting he will probably dis-aseemble it in the spring.

I know mine will be coming apart and I'll put it outside and likely use it again on subsequent winters if I am happy with it.

When I constructed it I used lag screws and 3 inch deck screws. It took Frank and I about 7 hrs over 2 days to build, but that involved all the measuring and cutting of lumber. I will number each piece over the winter, and I figure that it should only take a couple of hours to disassemble in the spring. The pieces will come home with us and be stored in the loft over the garage. So far the cost is just over $125 which I figured was about half the cost of the portable one at RONA. If you feel like dropping by this w/e to have a closer look please drop by.
All the Best
