Camping in the deep freeze

Postby another_newfie » Fri Jan 29, 2010 11:01 am

DW and I are headed for MAC this weekend, likely kidless as well :o. Temps are forecasted to be as low as minus 14. I guess I'll see if the extra work I did on my holding tanks withstands the frigid weather! Finally a reason to wear gloves ;). We are looking forward to a peaceful relaxing weekend. Thank heavens for the load of firewood I have sitting in the back of the truck.

Good luck, hopefully the prep work will pay off.

My Spree easily kept me comfortable for 4 nights at -12c and 60-80KM/H sustained winds over New Years. She did sustain one small section of frozen pipe but it was expected and has since been retrofitted to Canadian Winter Camping Standards :D

Have fun and keep us posted on the rigs status.

All good here at MAC [thumbs_up]. Currently minus 14.5C outside, 21.6C inside. We arrived last night to a blanket of snow, about 14 to 18 inches of it. Our site was perfectly plowed out. We had to shovel etc, but had a very peaceful night. the rig is performing as I would expect, no issues. Too bad we are only here for 2 nights

Another wonderful trip in the books. The temp really came up overnight and by morning we were sitting as high as minus 4C. Zero issues with the rig, all water systems performed perfectly. Considering this is about as cold as it gets around these parts I'd say I've gotten it nearly down to a science now ;). Since our next rig is heated and enclosed cold weather use of the water systems will be much simpler. However, I've more than proved that with the right prep it can be done with exposed tanks as well. We now await Family weekend for 3 more glorious nights in our own winter playland [thumbs_up] .
